Ruth Bonomo, 97, a long-time Janesville resident passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 at The Heights in Evansville where she had made her home since last July. Ruth was born January 4, 1917 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Sidney Stanfield and Clementine (Ord) Stanfield. She graduated from Eastern High School of Commerce in Toronto. Ruth married Carmelo J. Bonomo on June 26, 1954.Prior to her marriage, Ruth was employed in Toronto by the Evening Telegram newspaper. She moved to Janesville following her marriage. Ruth was an active member of First Presbyterian Church were she served as a deacon for over 20 years. She was active in the Meals On Wheels program serving as coordinator from her church for 16 years. She was a long-time member of the Mercy Hospital Association of Volunteers where she worked at the Castaways Store and knit many baby caps for the auxiliary. She also knit many blankets for the Linus Baby Blanket Program.
Ruth has numerous friends who survive including her special dear friends, Joe and Phyllis Black and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carmelo J. Bonomo who died on April 22, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 17 N. Jackson Street, Janesville with Rev. Dr. Bruce A. Jones officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.  The Henke-Clarson Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements
